Videostroboscopic Examination of the Larynx
- You are being booked for a test which takes 30 to 45 minutes (depending on your age and ability to cooperate).
- It is a recorded or video exam using a straight rigid scope through the mouth or a flexible scope through the nose, to look at your voice box or larynx. These scopes have a light at the end of them, which allow an excellent view of the area. Which scope we use is dependent on your tolerance of oral or nasal exams.
- If necessary, a throat spray or nasal spray is used to numb those areas. Either may be necessary in patients with strong gag reflexes. These sprays contain Cetacaine, Pontocaine and Afrin.
- You will be able to view your exam immediately following the laryngoscopy.
- You will be asked to refrain from eating or drinking for 15-30 minutes after the exam if local anesthesia (or spray) was used.
- If you cannot make the appointment, please give the office at least 48 hours notice (2 business days) otherwise, a $50.00 charge will be billed to you.
